Senior Scientist, Preclinical Development

Position Summary:

Reporting to the Senior Director Preclinical Research & Development, the Senior Scientist will be responsible for the coordination, and execution of internal and external preclinical in-vitro pharmacology studies including assay development and assay optimization. The incumbent will support discovery activities including molecular and cell biology assays as well as coordination of external in-vivo pharmacology studies making significant contributions to project teams.

Essential Functions:

  • Oversee the development and implementation of in vitro/cell culture-based pharmacology, biochemical and immunology assays
  • Experience with various assay platforms, including multi-color flow cytometry, ELISpot, ELISA, western blots and Luminex. Experience with histopathological staining is preferred but not required
  • Interface with external vendors and CROs regarding in vivo pharmacology studies and for the development, qualification, and execution of their assays
  • Clearly communicate findings to management and multidisciplinary groups
  • Author preclinical discovery reports, and test methods

Minimum experience/qualifications:

  • A minimum of 5 years of industry experience in conducting in vitro/cell culture-based pharmacology, biochemical and immunology assays, and assay development to support preclinical projects
  • Demonstrated success working with CROs and external vendors on in vivo pharmacology studies
  • Demonstrated success in technical proficiency, scientific creativity, and collaboration with others and independent thought
  • Ability to critically analyze and present data
  • This candidate should be a driver of innovative scientific research and development of assays to support discovery
  • Persuasive written and oral communications skills
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint

Educational Requirements

  • Doctoral degree (PhD) or Master (MSc) with >5 years preclinical industry experience or;
  • BSc degree with >10 years preclinical industry experience and demonstrated track record of success
